Worst Invaders :
Black Wattle, Silver Wattle, Lantana, Bugweed, Syringa
Notes :
Wattle and gum are major problem species and riverine areas are most susceptible
with invaders spreading like wildfire.
The current rate of spread is greater than the rate of control / the rate of
spread is described as very rapid and the potential for further spread is high.
North West
Worst Invaders :
Black Wattle, Queen of the night, Chromolaena, Prosopis, Poplar
Notes :
Seedbeds exists for further spread and waterways will become invaded.

Wild tobacco is invading dry river beds and is expected to invade all Namaqualand
rivers over the next 20 years. Prosopis in river beds is a major problem in this
province.
Western Cape
Worst Invaders :
Hakea, Rooikrans, Port Jackson, Pine, Sesbania
Notes :
River are largely invaded but there is scope for spread in the mountain catchment
areas and remaining uninvaded streams. Olifants is being rapidly invaded and
several rivers are expected to become completely clogged with water hyacinth.
Eastern Cape
Worst Invaders :
Black Wattle, Silver Wattle, Pine, Port Jackson, Eucalyptus
Notes :
Wattle is the fastest growing invader of them all, covering new areas in 5-10
years. Other projected rates of spread are given as 1-2% per year, doubling in the
following 10-20 years. In high rainfall areas, there is of course a greater
potential for spread.
Kwazulu-Natal
Worst Invaders :
Black Wattle, Silver Wattle, Lantana, Brambles, Chromolaena
Notes :
Rivers are high risk areas and riverbanks, floodplains, road verges and drainage
lines are being overrun. Coastal and inland forests are at risk of being
transformed to alien vegetation and the situation is considered explosive..
