The SEA Team in the Subdirectorate: Stream Flow Reduction Allocations has completed a pilot study for the Strategical Environmental Assessment for Water Use in the Mhlathuze Secondary Catchment in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. A document on the GIS component was compiled and describes the essential elements that should be taken into account during the study.  It also gives an outline of the methodology that is being used. The information currently stored on the database is set out in table format.  This will be updated when the need arises.

The SEA has now moved into the Usutu-Mhlathuze Water Management Area for its next pilot study. The focus area combines the upper region of KwaZulu-Natal and the South East part of Mpumalanga. The timetable for the current pilot study is from October 2000 - December 2001 with a three month extension (to March 2001) for training and evaluation. Like the Mhlathuze study all information and results will be published here when the study is finished.
