Station no (eg.C1H012)

Station numberThe gauging station number is made up of six characters, for example: C2H018. The first two characters refer to the sub-drainage region (C2) in which the gauging station is situated. The third character refers to the type of gauging station (H in flowing water, R in stored/standing water and E for meteorological stations). The last three characters are simply a serial number for the gauging station in the sub-drainage region concerned.

Data set: All gauging stations have one or more observation points. For each of these, three characters are added to the station number, e.g.: C2H018A01. The first character of the data code refers to the type of data collected whilst the latter two characters (numerical) make provision for more than one data set of the same data type at a gauging station.
