EVENTS - 2012

6th World Water Forum in Marseille France, 12 - 17 March 2012

The World Water Forum (WWF) is an international event, organised every three years by the World Water Council in collaboration with the authorities of the host country (Marseille for the 6th edition). It is the largest water-related event in the world, aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda.

A three-year preparatory process culminates in one week of sessions, debates and cultural activities, where water experts come together. In Marseille, the three levels of political decision makers are expected to come together to seek common solutions on water security and to set the agenda aimed at utilising water as a motor for development.

The Department of Water Affairs (DWA) will participate in the 6th World Water Forum (6th WWF) to be held in Marseille, France from 12 – 17 March 2012 under the conference theme “Time for Solutions”.

In line with the Forum’s objectives, DWA’s participation will enable the country to use thematic, regional and political processes to:

  • influence the global water agenda from a South African and African perspective,

  • share with the world unique South Africa initiatives and to learn from other countries,

  • enrich the international debate, and

  • contribute in discussions leading towards resolution of water management challenges facing developing economies.
