25 May Launch of package plants to be held in the Mbombela Municipality Mbombela Local Municipality, Mpumalanga This will be in response to the recent cholera outbreak in the province. The supply of clean and safe water is critical in the provision of sustained sanitation. Water forms the basis of people’s hygiene behaviours which completes the sanitation provision package. Launch Sanitation and hygiene Week 2009.
26 May Compliance and Monitoring Sol Plaatjie, Warrenton and Jan Kempdorp Municipalities, Northern Cape. The main purpose of this event will be that of Lesson Sharing whereby municipalities will be able to learn from one another on issues of pertaining to the maintenance of WWTW plants. This will further highlight the need for Municipalities to comply with Sanitation Services Quality Standards; effluent Discharge Quality standards (Regulations) and the responsibilities of citizens with regards to waste water services.
28 May Media Breakfast – Let’s talk Sanitation City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng In the Media Breakfast the DDG and Chief Director will interact with media on general sanitation related issues aimed at creating partnerships with media. Media will be used to solicit buy-in from the citizens for sanitation delivery and to popularize sanitation Health and Hygiene messages. This will also assist us to meet the sanitation H&H goals, as well as communicating the achievements of government with regard to Sanitations services delivery.
Operation and maintenance towards improved sustainability of sanitation facilities The aim is to encourage proper care and maintenance of sanitation facilities by communities in preparation for the 2010 World Cup. This event will be held at identified toilets which will commence with a march by the community and learners to pledge for commitment towards the use and care of sanitation facilities.
Hand-0ver ceremony Celebrating and handing over completed sanitation facilities to Department of Basic education
29 May The Baswa Le Meetse Awards Eastern Cape The award ceremony will be held in the Eastern Cape where the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry will be handing over a Media Centre to the school.
