Mathibela Water Reticulation Project Launch

Overview of Marite village

The Mathibela water reticulation project is one of the 25 water reticulation projects that were initiated under the intervention announced by the previous Minister and the Mpumalanga Premier in June 2013.

The project aims to improve the delivery of water services by developing and constructing a water reticulation system and connecting municipal customers to the water supply. The village has 321 households with an estimated population of 1 637. Mathibela is supplied by a 100kl reservoir located within Mathibela. The reservoir in turn gets water from both the Marite Package Plant and the Inyaka Dam.

Mathibela sub-village reticulation project has been completed by Rand Water through the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality intervention and is one of the four fully reticulated villages.

Women are mostly affected by insufficient and lack of water supply. Recently the village had a range of articles documenting women who have embarked in construction activities on their own in an attempt to connect themselves to the existing bulk water supply that is conveying water from Inyaka Water Treatment Works and Local Schemes within Marite. Out of 42 villages within Marite only four are fully reticulated namely; Madras, Watervaal, RDP and Mathibela.
