5th Africa Water Week: 26-31 May 2014, Dakar, Senegal

 

Africa Water Week (AWW) is an Africa water event that is organised every two years by the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) to promote cooperation, security, socio-economic development and poverty eradication through the management of water resources and the provision of water supply services in Africa. AMCOW is actively engaged in keeping the state of Africa’s water under review and in promoting actions of common African interest by all stakeholders.

The 5th AWWwill take place in Dakar, Senegal from 26-31 May 2014, under theme “Placing Water at the heart of the post 2015 Development Agenda”. The week’s programme will consist of technical plenary meetings and parallel sessions on thematic topics preceded by an opening session on the first day. Parallel to the technical sessions, expositions of innovative technologies, fairs and side meetings and events will also take place. The event will then be concluded by closing plenary sessions to discuss key recommendations and proposed actions.

The Department has been invited to participate at the5th AWW to enable the country to use thematic, regional and political processes to:

  • Influence the global water agenda from a South African and African perspective,

  • To share with the world unique South Africa initiatives and to learn from other countries,

  • To enrich the international debate, and

  • To contribute in discussions leading towards resolution of water management challenges facing developing economies.
