Regulatory Comments 2011 :
The Department again commends the City of Johannesburg, Johannesburg Water and Rand Water with an exceptional performance in drinking water quality operations and management.
The Lead Inspector noted: “Top management of the City and JW were well represented at the Blue Water Service Confirmation Session which was held on the 16 March 2012. During the assessment a few but critical deficiencies were identified especially with respect to the risk hazard assessment. City of Johannesburg in partnership with Johannesburg - and Rand Water pulled out all stops to address the identified deficiencies and commented as follows on the final draft of their Water Safety Plan: ` It was quite a learning curve! What is particularly good is that the work that we did wasn’t just in order to comply with an audit, but we now have a tool that can and will be used to ensure a safe water supply on an on-going basis.
The professional manner, in which the City of Johannesburg manages its water supply system, its interaction with Rand Water and the swift response to concerns raised by the national regulatory unit during the assessment session, verifies its status as a Water Service Institute of Excellence. Municipalities receiving potable from the City of Johannesburg can be assured that the management of the water supply system is of the highest standard in terms of risk management and the overall provisions of the Blue Drop Certification programme”
