Regulatory Impression:
A magnificent performance indeed. This water services authority had many challenges to face as their services area stretches over varied areas but they held true to their endeavour towards excellence and ultimately achieved. The extraordinary team effort can be regarded as the most remarkable attribute to this commendable Blue Drop performance.
The manner in which the water safety planning process was approached as well as the risk assessment that was tabledwith the inspectors, were found to be in line with international standards. Should the municipality maintain to the consistent implementation of this process, the citizens of Ekurhuleni can have the greatest of confidence in the manner drinking water quality is being managed in the area they reside.
Special mention has to be made of the bulk supplier, Rand Water. This water board embraced the Blue Drop certification concept and invested in amending their traditional reporting systems to adhere to the manner BDS (Blue Drop information System) is accepting information. They also went to great lengths to implement best practice as prescribed by the World Health Organisation. They also respect the regulatory requirements set by the Department and through all of this, not only showed that they are a leading entity in many ways but also a very valuable team player of the South African water sector.
The water services authority is reminded that it surely took a tremendous effort to have claimed the Top Spot in the country, but it will take an even more concerted effort to remain there.
