| Regulatory Comments 2011 : |
This is again a rather impressive performance by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro; the municipality is worthy of the two water supply systems that receive the coveted Blue Drop Certification status. The Lead Inspector noted: “This Water Services Authority has been well prepared and was very keen to share information and show their commitment. It was a good experience to assess them and the good impression was furthermore extended when the two site visits were made.” The remarkable effort in implementing risk management principles by means of a water safety planning process, promises even more systems to obtain similar status should the municipality prioritises microbiological compliance over the next assessment cycles. The inspectors were impressed by the professional approach towards process control at the treatment works inspected and this further justifies the two Blue Drops allocated. The overall excellent performance is slightly tainted by the microbiological compliance and treatment process audit requirements that are not up to standard at most of the other facilities. These two elements require targeted interventions to ensure a more complete Blue Drop performance during the next audit cycle. However, the Metro is commended for consistency in excellence as reflected by the scores (90.11% in 2011 and 90.04% in 2012) in spite of the ever increasing regulatory requirements demand.
