Strategy Steering Committee

The primary function of the Strategy Steering Committee (SSC) is to ensure the implementation of the Strategy and to make recommendations on an annual basis, on long-term planning activities required to ensure ongoing reconciliation of water requirement from and available supply to the VRS.

The objectives of the SSC are:

  • To ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the VRS Reconciliation Strategy.

  • To update the Strategy to ensure that it remains relevant.

  • Ensure that the Strategy and its recommendations are appropriately communicated.

The SSC was formed in July 2009. This Committee has representatives from provincial government departments involved in water resources management, conservation organisations, agriculture, District and Local Municipalities in the study area, Water Boards, civic organisations, parastatals such as Eskom and Sasol as well as the DWS National and Limpopo Provincial Offices.

The SSC is a voluntary body operating at a strategic level and ensuring that the technical aspect of the study is transparent, open and consultative and that cooperative governance is embraced.
