NORAD Resources Provided for Project Implementation

The Programme has been planned to span two phases. NORAD currently funds the first phase, to 2003, with a South African contribution by the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry.

The NORAD portion is in the form of a grant of 25 Million Norwegian Kroner (19.1 Million Rands) over the period 2000-2003. Additional inputs from DWAF will consist of the allocation of technical personnel to some of the projects, administrative assistance, including provision of a Programme Manager, the printing of brochures for certain projects, and additional funding to the projects. DWAF’s contribution quantified in financial term’s amounts to an equivalent of 8.0 Million Norwegian Kroner (6 Million Rands).

The total Geohydrology budget of the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry is R25 million.

The Norwegian grant will make the R700 million community water supply programme more effective.

STANDARD BOREHOLE DESCRIPTORS

Long awaited documentation that is attempting to standardise the way the data related to groundwater, and boreholes in particular is available for general perusal. Substantial amount of work is behind the pages that can now be downloaded for daily reference. The project that generated the document was enabled thanks to generous support of the NORAD, the Norwegian Agency for the Development Cooperation.
