World Wetlands Day 2012 02 February
Today marks the 15th anniversary of the commemoration of World Wetlands Day since the inaugural celebration in 1997 and most importantly the 41th anniversary of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands since it’s signing in 1971. So far, wetlands continue to offer great value for biodiversity which human beings depend on for their livelihood.
Floods Mpumalanga 19 January
The Department of Water Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in the Mpumalanga Province where heavy rains have caused wide spread flooding. A team from the Department has been deployed to the affected areas and is working with the local authorities and disaster management units to bring the situation under control.
Crocodile West River System 20 December
The Department of Water Affairs (DWA) is exploring various new planning scenarios to ensure continued adequate water supply in the Crocodile West River System. A Strategy Steering Committee for the Crocodile West River System (SSC) was established to assist the Department in implementing, reviewing and updating the system’s bulk water supply Reconciliation Strategy.
